Authorities arrested a woman after she intentionally set the car on fire while her 14-month-old son was inside.
Caylin Allise Watson, 23, of Columbia is accused of intentionally setting her car on fire while her 14-month-old son was inside, causing him to suffer burns severely all over his body.
Caylin was sent to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia, South Carolina on the following charges.
- Attempted murder
- Arson, first degree
- Arson, third-degree
- Abuse
- Infliction of great bodily injury upon a child.
The incident happened on Interstate-126 at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 17. Four witnesses traveling along the highway stopped to help the toddler and call 911. Fire units later responded to extinguish the flame.

The 14-month-old child suffered severe burns and was taken to the Augusta Burn Center in Georgia, where he is in critical condition.
Investigators with the Columbia Police Department are continuing to determine the motive behind setting the car on fire.
According to police, Caylin was detained after investigators said they found evidence suggesting the fire was intentionally set.
