Liza Scott from Savage’s Bakery in Alabama is serving a different kind of lemonade now- a concoction that customers won’t find on their regular menu.
7-year-old Liza Scott is the daughter of bakery owner Elizabeth Scott, and has now set up her lemonade stand inside her mother’s bakery in Homewood.
For the customers, it’s just another lemonade stand, but for 7-year-old Liza Scott, it’s a sign of hope and strength because the proceedings from each glass of lemonade sold will go to Liza’s brain surgeries.
“She has three cerebral malformations, one is what they call a schizencephaly. So it’s a cleft in the frontal lobe on the right side of her brain, and we think that’s what causing the seizures.” Elizabeth Scott said.
Schizencephaly is a rare birth defect. It causes slits or clefts in the cerebral hemispheres of your brain. These clefts may appear on one or both sides of your brain. They may be filled with cerebrospinal fluid.
Liza started having Grand Mal seizures a month ago, after consulting the doctors they learned that fearless Liza has an “extra special brain”.
If there is anyone who can take lemons and make it to the most amazing Lemonade ever, it is Liza. Selling lemonade (and other special treats) is one of her favorite things to do. So much so I built her a Lemonade Stand so she could sell her sweet creations anytime she wanted outside our family bakery in Homewood, AL. And sell she does, even giving it away for free just because she wants everyone to enjoy. Liza’s mother wrote on her Mightycause page.
So raise your glass of Lemonade high — cause this little warrior girl is adding a little more zest to life each and every day!
Liza and her mother will fly to Boston Children’s hospital next week for the first of a series of surgeries. Liza finds the process difficult “I can’t handle it. So I hope I make it, My mom keeps saying I’m going to, but I feel like I’m not,” Liza said.
Liza’s mother is still processing what is happening in her daughter’s life, as it happened all of a sudden, she is leaning on her faith to stay strong. “You know, in the moments that I feel like I can’t breathe, or I’m awake in the night and I can’t sleep, I pray, I’m on my hands and knees, literally praying.” Elizabeth said.
Elizabeth has purchased additional insurance for Liza’s brain surgeries, but the travel cost and staying at hotels would cost the family, so the family has started a Lemonade For Liza – Zest for Life w/Brain Surgery fund page.
